Top Ten Books That Have Been Gathering Dust On My Shelves

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. You can find upcoming topics at their Top Ten Tuesday page.

Ada or Ardor

I know that some of the titles are really small and may be hard to read, so I'll list them all here:

One Hundred Years of Solitude
The Stand
Me Talk Pretty One Day
Watership Down
Metamorphosis
Oliver Twist
Ada, or Ardor
The Woman in White
Atlas Shrugged
The Count of Monte Cristo

As you can see, most of these titles are either classics or large books (or both). So, of course, I put off reading them in favor of lighter books. In fact, the only book that doesn't fit under either classification is David Sedaris' Me Talk Pretty One Day. I don't know why I haven't read this book yet other than the fact that I don't typically read humor books. But I'm sure I'll love it once I finally get to it (the reason why I became interested in it was because I had a slight speech problem in elementary school-I slurred my r's-so I thought I could relate while having a good laugh at the same time).

  2. We have a number of these in common, though none of them appear on my list because there just wasn't room for everything that would be on this list!
    JNCL
    The Beauty of Eclecticism

  3. Totally agree with you on the classics especially The Count! I should dedicate more time to the classics but there's always too many new books to read!

  6. Watership Down is one of those books that I really, really tried to read but eventually gave up on and passed on to a charity shop. I was the same with Black Beauty, I think I just don't do classics where the main characters are talking animals!

  8. We share The Count of Monte Cristo on our lists. The Stand is one of my all-time favourites. :)

  9. I read the Sedaris book because it reminded me of Chase's speech class issues. It was very funny. The Stand is long, but an easy read, and one of King's best IMO. But there is always the movie.

  10. oh, man... another Watership Down!! I think I've read that book at least three times. You get over the idea of bunnies after the first few chapters. I don't think it should be left waiting along with Dickens, who really is challenging to read, if really good. I can see why these are unread, tho... good for "some day"!

  11. I tried reading 100 Years of Solitude when I was younger, and I never finished. I would like to revisit it now that I'm older though.

  14. It has been really hard for me to try reading Classics or any difficult books recently. The Count of Monte Cristo is one I really want to read, especially with the TV show Revenge being loosely based on it.
